Punta Cana is a town (Place) belonging to the Juanillo section, located east of the Dominican Republic, in the province of La Altagracia. In this town there are several hotel complexes, whose total area is about 420,000 m² (equivalent to 42 hectares or 0.42 km²).
In Punta Cana is the Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ), the country’s main airport, located about 30 km inland, on the road that leads from Higüey to La Romana. This airport receives 64% of all flights that arrive in the country, so it receives more passengers than the Las Americas International Airport, located in Santo Domingo, the capital of the country.
Administratively, Punta Cana is part of the municipal district of Verón Punta Cana belonging to the municipality of Higüey.2 This district had a population of 43,982 inhabitants according to the 2010 census, of which 37,286 were from the urban area and 6696 from the rural area.
Macao Beach, Uvero Alto
Playa Macao contains white sand with palm trees in its surroundings and is one of the few beaches in the region that has not been invaded by hotels.
Indigenous Eyes
This 1,500 acre protected area was donated by Grupo Puntacana to Fundación Grupo Puntacana for the creation of a nature reserve, for educational, scientific and recreational purposes.
